SURAT: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is set to start vaccination to frontline workers from January 31 in the city.
The SMC has rolled out a vaccination programme against the Covid-19 to health care workers (HCW) in the city from January 16.
"As on Friday evening, total 18,181 health care workers from private as well as government hospitals have been vaccinated in Surat city.

We had identified around 38,000 health care workers for vaccination. Now, we are planning to roll out the vaccination programme for frontline workers like police, SMC employees, revenue employees in the city from January 31," Banchhanidhi Pani, Municipal Commissioner, Surat, told TOI.
"We have a total 80 vaccination centres across the city and we plan to increase these centres to 100. About 100 people are vaccinated per day from one centre," Pani added.
According to SMC officials, the first phase of the vaccination of healthcare workers will be completed by the second week of February. The second dose of vaccination will begin alongside the first round of vaccination to health care workers.
Vaccinations have been given to healthcare workers of SMC run SMIMER hospital, New Civil Hospital and other private hospitals in the city.
In Surat district, a total 1,413 healthcare workers have been vaccinated till now.
